Extra Credit - Ch. 5 Blog

After reading chapter 5 of "The Catcher in the Rye", I have learned that Holden had a younger brother, Allie, who had a tragic death due to leukemia when both were very young. This chapter discussed a little bit about how hard the death of Allie was on Holden and how it may have been the main contributing factor to Holden's behavior. The book said that Holden slept in his family's garage that night and punched out all the windows. Holden even said he would have punched out more windows such as the car windows, but his hand was already broken. This chapter also speaks of how Holden's parents wanted him to get analyzed by a psychologist. When first reading this book I thought Holden may have just had a minor ADHD disorder because of how easy it was for him to get bored and off task. His mind tended to wander away from things often times, and he was very sporadic and spontaneous. Now, after reading chapter 5, I believe that something much worse could be wrong with him. Something is definitely different about Holden, but I don't know what. He is a very strange character, that is for sure...
