Pre-Reading Question

5. How do we as citizens of America and/or individuals deal with others who do not share our perspective of truth?

Often times, when dealing with others who share different opinions, thoughts, or beliefs other than our own, we all tend to disregard any of their comments and ask for more proof that their idea is correct. We all want to be certain about everything it seems like today, whether it's religion or politics. Many of us tell others, whose opinions differ from us, that their ideas are incorrect and we even fail to listen to their side of the story. We are caught up in our own world and we often times judge things before we get the big picture of what they are about. It is sad that so many of us, whether we like it or not, are so judgmental of others' opinions. In the extreme cases where opinions, thoughts, or beliefs differ, violence can erupt just like it has often times in the past. It seems like it is almost human nature for us all to think our opinions are right all the time and not listen to what others have to say. Don't get me wrong, some people are very good at listening to other perspectives, but the majority of us will disagree without even giving the other person a chance to explain his or her side of the story. All of this is just another sad, sad truth...
